Project Description
Michele Karban, Integrative Psychotherapist, Integrative Child Psychotherapist, EMDR therapist and Clinical Supervisor registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP).
With over 30 years of experience in the caring profession, Michele is a compassionate and dedicated humanistic psychotherapist.
My therapeutic approach is holistic paying attention to the mind body connection. My integrative training draws upon Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic theory as well as Attachment Theory and up to date Neuroscience. My study also incorporated working with the arts, imagination and creativity as a therapeutic approach which can support clients in gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
Her journey began as a team member providing care to teenage girls in a children’s home, where she developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by young people in care. Since then, Michele has worked in various settings, including private and NHS psychiatric units for both teenagers and adults, as well as rehabilitation environments and schools. Michele has been working in private practice since 2010. Michele is also a registered practitioner for BAPAM which is a specialist organisation for professionals working in the performance arts sector.
Michele prioritises creating a safe and supportive environment and works to ensure all clients feel respected and understood. She believes wholeheartedly that it is the connection between herself and the client which is the essential element for change and success in her therapeutic work. With a mix of warmth and challenge, she offers a place that encourages self-reflection and growth, helping people integrate their experiences and gain deeper insights into themselves.
Working with children and young people, she provides support for issues such as family separation, bereavement, self-harming behaviour, anxiety and school-related problems.
Michele’s work with adults also encompasses a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, separation/loss, and difficulties stemming from childhood experiences.
Her diverse experience:
Michele’s training as a yoga teacher has enriched her therapeutic approach, allowing her to integrate a holistic perspective into her work. Additionally, she is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which she incorporates into her practice where appropriate to enhance trauma processing, allowing deeper healing and personal growth.
As a sex-positive therapist, she has been involved with Pineapple Support Charity for several years, providing therapy to people working specifically in the adult performance industry.
