Project Description

Vanessa AggreyVanessa Aggrey, TA certified psychotherapist

I have been working with individuals and groups for over eighteen years, and take a holistic view of the mind and body. Before training in Psychotherapy, I worked extensively with individual and families supporting them in making positive changes in their lives.

My experience has included providing therapy and counselling within NHS GP practices, and ChildLine. I have also facilitated group counselling and well-being sessions with individuals who have acute and complex mental health problems and addiction.

Some people simply feel there is “something wrong” and want space to explore their thoughts and feelings. I offer a non-judgemental, supportive and confidential space that will allow you to explore and gain an understanding of the feelings or situation that is causing you unhappiness.

As a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor I work with individuals (adults, children & young people) and couples on a short term and long term basis, with the aim of enabling them to live their life more fully.

Alongside my private practice I work as a specialist mentor at a university providing mental health and well-being support to students who are experiencing barriers to their learning.

PERSONAL APPROACH

My training is in Relational Transactional Analysis (TA). TA is a theory that was developed by Dr. Eric Berne in the 1950s. The theory outlines how we have developed, and treat ourselves, along with how we relate and communicate with others. The philosophy of TA is that: people can change, and that we all have a right to be in the world and be accepted.

I would describe myself as an integrative practitioner, which means that elements of psychoanalytic, humanist and cognitive approaches are integrated into my work, which has enabled me to find my own style of working as a therapist.
I believe that the most important part of therapy is the relationship between client and therapist, and that this relational process enables developmental growth and change.
