The Art of Existential Therapy Seminar
IN-PERSON on the 12th July 2025 at Rufolf Steiner House, London NW1.

A one-day Seminar to address the following questions:
“What is so Existential about Existential Therapy? Is there a difference between practicing Existential Therapy and Becoming an Existentialist? What does it mean to be alongside another? What does it feel like to Experience Relatedness? What kind of Art is Group Therapy? What is my contribution to the field?”
More about the day…
Meditation: “Into the Spirit of Relatedness”
“It is the mutual emphasis upon inter-relatedness as a foundational value for human enquiry that reveals substantive and intriguing points of connection between existential psychotherapy and phenomenological enquiry.” – Prof. Ernesto Spinelli.
In this first session we will aim for an Opening to perceive the world around and inside each of us more clearly, in order to grasp the many opportunities to review our sedimented patterns. Gradually, new ways to communicate with others might become available to us through playful creativity.
Lecture: “What’s so Existential about Existential Therapy?”
“Existential Therapy emphasises the actual relationship that emerges between psychotherapist and client and argues that it is via the contrast and comparison of this lived experience with that of their ‘wider world’ experience that clients can find the means to reconsider and reconstruct their “ways of being”.”– Prof. Ernesto Spinelli.
In this second session Prof. Spinelli will give a talk addressing some key topics and concerns. Participants will be invited to ask questions and ultimately we will aim for a Group Dialogue on the subject.
Group Session: “The Art of Group Therapy”
“The Group space is a sacred atmosphere co-created for the dialogue, the encounter and the re-invention of one another and our-selves” – Dr. Yaqui Martinez
We will engage in experiential group process work, offering a space to openly, respectfully, playfully, and warmly explore the different dynamics of interpersonal interaction. Bárbara Godoy and Dr. Yaqui Martinez will serve us as “Vestals: Guardians of the sacred fire”, in order to bring to life the themes from the lecture and dialogue.
Reflections on Professional Practice
This final session will bring all the experiences of the day into an integration which hopefully will be food for thought and significantly boost our work with clients.
Fringe Event Optional

This is a phenomenological existential energetic practice that involves a full embodiment and also includes internal psychological processes and emotions. Each participant has the space to move from impulse and make themselves at home in the enviroment of the group. This practice will bring to life the spirit of playing together while delivering important insight into the nature of relatedness.
This evening is inspired by 5-Rhythms. (*)
(*) 5-Rhythms is a movement meditation practice, a dance journey of music and movement, developed by Gabrielle Roth, that encourages people to become more conscious through dance, exploring different states of being through a sequence of five distinct rhythmic patterns. This sequence is called “the wave” and the five rhythms are: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. It has the purpose to put the body in motion in order to still the mind.
