Project Description

My name is Gerhard Payrhuber (MSc, MPhil, Dipl. Sup) and I am an accredited integrative psychotherapist, supervisor and a senior lecturer in contemporary psychotherapy approaches.

If you are reading this, it is very likely that you have been struggling for a while and that you are looking for a way to change and transform your struggles. Recognising the need for help is the first but often the most difficult step in seeking psychotherapy. Contact me now…

What I Offer:
I work with people who suffer from traumatic experiences, depression, eating disorders, anxiety-related issues and those who can't just work out why they feel so unhappy, confused or helpless.

I help people with obsessive and compulsive issues and work with people who face a suicidal crisis. I further work with people who struggle with sex addictions and other “psychiatric”; conditions or addiction issues. I do offer group-focused therapy, and I work with couples. My training at the Institute for Group Analysis informed my therapeutic approach to group therapy and transgenerational trauma groups.

But symptoms like fever for example, although we don’t like it, are often healthy responses to an unhealthy situation. My therapeutic experience is further informed by my work at various NHS hospitals, the third sector and in a psychiatric community as well as in public corporations.

As a senior lecturer, I teach contemporary academic and training practices to trainee therapists in their last stage of training.

How I Work:
I bring and enjoy working with a wide range of treatment methods because I know there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. All research shows that the best outcome predictor of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. I therefore work in an approachable relational style that aims to develop a supportive and transparent treatment relationship with you.

My training and methods include:

  • Integrative and existential therapy is an approach to treatment that involves selecting approaches from different therapeutic orientations best suited to a particular problem or situation. By tailoring the therapeutic process to the specific individual and context, I hope to instigate significant changes and needed developments while offering a supportive space to explore how to do all this.
  • Trauma-focused therapy: Therapy that includes the latest knowledge about somatic as well as psychological processes after traumatic experiences. I have further offered and developed trauma treatment to public and private organisations.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing): Highly effective for those dealing with trauma or PTSD, it allows you to reprocess memories and get real relief from the pain they cause. EMDR is of course, only as good as the therapist.
  • Contemporary Philosophy and Psychotherapy: I studied philosophy in Vienna under Karl Popper and have experience working within the creative profession. I continue to engage with contemporary Continental philosophical and existential theories. We will explore profound life-related challenges and develop adaptive coping styles that will encourage you to live your life – and not just function or survive
it. I remember Winnicott, who used to be a leading British therapist who said: Let me be alive when I die.

Professional Expertise:
As a senior therapist and leader in the field, I bring over 20 years of clinical practice. Beyond my work with people and groups, I have undergone in-depth training across a wide spectrum of treatment methods and have a diploma from the Institute of Group Analysis.

I am often consulted by other professionals as well as therapists, and I have helped to develop various treatment centres with an eye on unique treatment modalities.

Working with me will allow you to benefit from the best and latest therapeutic developments, combined with an in-depth work experience in other professional fields from the creative to the finance sectors.

Why Work with Me?
Clients like my open and transparent style of working, which will stay focused on your needs as well as your desires and dreams. I am working with people who are in the public domain and are often leaders in their own fields. As an Austrian living in London I further bring an active sensitivity to cross-cultural and social realities and offer therapy in German.

If you’re ready for real change, let’s work together. Reach out when you’re ready – I’m here to get the ball rolling.
