Project Description

Aaron McGuinness Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

If you feel stuck, in pain, or in crisis, it can be hard to know where to begin.  It is my view that therapy can be a valuable first step. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I provide a safe and supportive environment where I encourage you to express yourself freely without fear of judgment. Together, we will work to deepen your understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, while exploring how past events and unconscious patterns may shape your current relationships and ways of thinking.

I have experience in both private practice and the NHS. My training at WPF in London provided a demanding and rigorous foundation, and I am committed to maintaining a high degree of theoretical rigour with in my work. Staying current with new ideas in the field is essential to me, ensuring my clinical practice remains contemporary and effective.

I see therapy as a collaborative process. Building a strong, trusting relationship between myself and my clients is central to effective treatment, and I strive to create a space where you feel both heard and understood.

Through thoughtful listening and exploration of your personal history, we look at recurring patterns, past experiences, and the therapeutic relationship itself to help you understand the roots of your difficulties. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can foster personal growth and self-awareness, enabling you to live more fully in the present.

Before training as a therapist, I worked in the fashion and retail industry. This background allows me to bring creativity in to my practice, as well as lived experience of fast-paced, demanding corporate environments—something many clients find helpful when navigating pressures in their own professional lives.

I work with clients facing a wide range of challenges including.

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Trauma
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Relationship issues
  • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts,
  • Identity concerns,
  • Low self-worth
  • Loneliness
  • Anger

As a practitioner I welcome people from varied social, cultural, religious, and LGBTQ+ backgrounds, and I tailor each session to your unique situation to ensure you receive effective and meaningful support.

I am keenly interested in art, culture and creativity more widely, and it is my view that creativity and art more can help us make sense of our lives and our internal worlds. Art can often help us find a way to imagine thoughts, feelings and emotions than can often feel hard to express or even understand.
