Project Description

Gillian LockGillian Lock is an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor with over 25 years of experience and registered with both the United Kingdom Council for Psychotheraphy (UKCP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Gillian works with adults, couple relationships, adolescents, groups, and families. She also offers career consulting and coaching, taking a psychologically informed approach to career and work-related issues.

Integrative psychotherapy considers the whole person, taking into account the body, mind, emotions, and familial, social, and cultural context. Gillian will explore a broad range of influences throughout the lifespan to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships to others, and their role in society. This exploration involves both the internal and external worlds of the client and their interaction.

There are various therapeutic approaches that can be employed depending on the client’s issues and age. The therapy emphasises a confidential relationship between the therapist and client, with both actively engaged in exploring difficulties, the focus and direction of the therapy, and evaluating outcomes. Therapy may be short or longer-term, with the duration agreed upon with the client.

Gillian maintains a non-judgemental, analytic, open-minded curiosity towards clients, recognising that multiple truths and perspectives are subjectively interpreted by each individual. Through open and honest dialogue, clients are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves, their thoughts, their future direction, and how they adapt to life’s challenges.

Clients often wonder how therapy can be helpful and whether it is right for them. Gillian suggests trying a few sessions to see if they feel at ease and comfortable being open with her, making it a very personal and subjective experience.
