In the 17th century renowned scientist Thomas Bartholin was the first to describe the entire lymph system which he understood to be a natural process that purifies the body & regulates irritation, swelling & oedema. The science of lymphology however is only recently being developed.

“The water content of the body should be studied as a whole because all organs & organic systems are intimately connected.” Dr. Emil Vodder who originally developed manual lymph drainage in the 1930s.

MLD is a gentle, non invasive treatment. Gentle rhythmic pumping techniques move the skin in the direction of lymph flow which stimulates the lymphatic vessels. These vessels carry substances vital to the defence of the body and remove waste products.

MLD is deeply relaxing & can be used as a well being treatment. It drains congested tissue & is used where there is fluid retention, puffiness, sinusitis, acne & other chronic conditions.

  • MLD promotes the healing of fractures, burns & wounds & improves the appearance of scar tissue.
  • MLD promotes healing after cosmetic surgery & is recommended following liposuction.
  • MLD is recommended in the treatment & management of lymphoedema & lipoedema which may include compression therapy.

The first visit includes a consultation to determine the number and frequency of future sessions, where appropriate working in conjunction with your medical practitioner.
