Project Description
Sophia Arthur-Uchendu, Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, MBACP and NCPS accredited.
Sophia offers counselling, psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help individuals – people in their late teens, young adults and adults. She works with a range of issues including, but not limited to, trauma (PTSD), depression, anxiety, abuse, self-esteem issues, relationship/marital issues (parent struggling with
teen/young adult child and late teen, young adult and adult struggling
with parent plus other relationship struggles), communication issues, divorce, and confusion.
She has extensive experience in working with trauma and trauma-related issues, such as issues stemming from an upbringing that may be impacting your relationships and family life. Unhealthy behaviours, anger management, trust issues and withdrawing.
You may be in a place where you feel like you can’t cope and you are unsure of how to move forward to start feeling better. The first step you’ve taken to find a therapist is a major step in breaking free. My natural flair for warmly connecting with and helping people through emotional, depressive, life destructive downturns, anxiety and all round mental health bad days, combined with a wealth of training in various techniques, including person centred counselling, psychodynamic therapy, humanistic counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and so on, means that I am able to help you to feel heard and understood, explore your issues and point you in the right direction in the way that is right for you.
Being a woman of colour, I have a deep experience in a culture-aware practise and offer counselling for people with cultural issues. I also provide Christian faith-based counselling and psychotherapy. Regardless of your background or the approach we use, you are assured of the highest form of unconditional positive regard.
Training, qualifications & experience
Professional Diploma, Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
She uses the Pluralistic approach, which pulls from different modalities, with her clients through the years to ensure that each client receives the best help that suits them in that phase of life they are in or through the challenge they currently face.
With a base in Person-Centred therapy, I could journey back with you to history to find what your subconscious is holding and how that is manifesting in your ‘today’ (Psychodynamic); we could throw our attention on your Cognitions and Behaviour to manage them to work well for you (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy); we could focus on you achieving your full potential in life (Humanistic). This, of course, is not the limit. I will work with using a healthy dose of psycho-education so that you are well informed of what is happening with you.
